Detailed Solution

The Constitution of India calls India a "union of states". Even though the word "federal" isn't specifically mentioned in the Constitution. India is a federal state as the power of the government is divided between the centre and the states. This federal division of power has constitutional guarantees. The Constitution of India gives three lists (central list, state list, and concurrent list) where the central government and the state government have the power to legislate. In the event of a conflict between the centre and states in the exercise of power, the judiciary (supreme court and high court) will make the final decision.
