The Indian Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950. And it is the day now celebrated as Republic Day in India. It was specifically chosen because earlier in the Lahore Session of the congress in 1930, the day was celebrated as “Swaraj Day ” with the ‘Poorna Swaraj’ resolution being formed. The formation of the constitution took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days and cost around 6.4 million rupees. Dr B.R. Ambedkar was the chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly.
