Detailed Solution

In 1885, the Indian National Congress was founded.
On December 28, 1885, the Indian National Congress, one of the biggest and oldest political organizations of its sort in the world, was established. A British member of the Imperial Civil Service started the party. Poona was required to host the Congress' inaugural meeting (now Pune). However, due to a cholera outbreak, the event was moved to Bombay (now Mumbai). Hume required the consent of the Viceroy at the time, "Lord Dufferin," to hold the meeting. Womesh Chandra Bonnerjee, also known as Umesh Chandra Banerjee, served as the first president of the First Congress. 72 additional delegates attended the gathering. After Gandhi returned from South Africa in 1914, Congress chose him to serve as president.
