Detailed Solution

The Indian western coast consists of three section. The western coastal plain can be subdivided into three divisions on a regional basis. From Gujarat to Kerala, the western coastal plain can be divided into three sections - the Malabar coast. the Konkan coast and the Gujarat coast. The southernmost portion of the western coastal plain extends from Kanyakumari to Mangalore, making up the Malabar coast. The backwaters are a specialty of this section which is broader as compared to the northern sections. The Konkan coast extends up to the Gulf of Khambhat and is rocky. This coast has rich oil deposits which are the sources for the oil refineries in Mumbai. The Kathiawar and Kutch peninsulas make up the Gujarat coast. This area is highly saline and barren.
