If the substrate promotes the expression of structural genes the regulation is described as inducible regulation. Lactose is inducer for the expression of structural gens of lac operon. In the presence of energy source as Glucose and Galactose, the structural genes are not transcribed. Products of structural genes of this operon are involved in lactose metabolism.
