Detailed Solution

The infamous Jallianwala Bagh incident took place in the enclosed ground of Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar on April 13 in 1919. The British government had implemented martial law in response to the Rowlatt Satyagraha and widespread unrest caused by the passage of the Rowlatt Act. Unaware, residents had assembled in Jallianwala Bagh to take part in a Baisakhi fair. General Dyer approached the area, barred the exits, and then opened fire on the mob as hundreds of people had gathered there. Hundreds of women, children, the elderly, and young people were killed in the process. General Dyer wanted to have a moral impact by instilling awe and fear of the British in the hearts of the satyagrahis through his actions.
