The instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure is called a barometer.
The device used to measure the atmospheric pressure in terms of the height of the mercury column is a barometer. A mercury barometer is used to measure the Air pressure. Under normal atmospheric pressure, the mercury column takes a height of  76 cm. Therefore, the pressure exerted by 76 cm high mercury column is measured as 1 atmospheric pressure.
