In the Hofmann bromamide degradation reaction, the intermediates are RCONHBr and RNCO.
In this reaction an amide is heated with bromine and caustic soda to give primary amine. Thus, amide group is converted to amine group. In this reaction, one carbon atom is lost as carbonate ion.
