The internal frontier of the Delhi Sultanate is referred to as Ganga-Yamuna doab.

The Sultanate's "internal" frontiers are the combined hinterlands of its garrison towns. These campaigns resulted in the clearing of forests in the Ganga-Yamuna doab, the eviction of pastoralists and hunter-gatherers from their homes, and the transfer of these lands to the peasants. Additionally, they supported local commerce by building new forts and garrison towns. The military operations into southern India that began during the rule of Alauddin Khalji and finished under the rule of Muhammad Tughluq were considered the "external" limits of the Sultanate.
