Now, the cloth can be woven inexpensively and in large quantities. By the beginning of the 19th century, English-made cotton textiles had successfully displaced Indian products from their traditional markets in Africa, America, and Europe. This was due to the expansion of the cotton industry in Britain, which led to a decline in the production of textiles in India. Indian weavers lost their jobs. Bengal weavers were the most severely impacted. Businesses in England and Europe stopped importing goods from India, and their agents stopped giving loans to weavers so they could purchase supplies. In their letters, beleaguered weavers asked the authorities for help.
