Detailed Solution

The itinerary of the salt march from Sabarmati – Dandi. Gandhi led the march from Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Ashram to the Gujarati hamlet of Dandi.
Mahatma Gandhi started the historic Salt March on March 12, 1930. The march—also referred to as the Dandi March or the Salt Satyagraha—was conducted as a nonviolent gesture of protest against the unjust salt tariff established by the British administration. The Civil Disobedience Movement in India started with the 24-day march, founded on Gandhi's satyagraha philosophy. The British had a monopoly on the manufacturing and sale of salt by the Salt Act of 1882. Indians were compelled to purchase salt from the British administration even though it was freely accessible throughout the country's shores.
