Detailed Solution

The Jallianwala Bagh incident occurred on 13 April 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab. In Jallianwalla Bagh's enclosed grounds, a large crowd had assembled. Some people showed up in protest of the government's recent repressive actions. Others had come to take part in the yearly Baisakhi fair. Many villagers were from outside the city and unaware that martial law was in place. Hundreds of people were killed when Dyer stormed the area, closed off the exits, and started shooting at the gathering. He later stated that his goal was to "generate a moral effect," instilling awe and fear in the hearts of the satyagrahis.
