Detailed Solution

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre occurred in Amritsar on April 13, 1919. It happened on Baisakhi Day when a large crowd gathered at Jallianwala Bagh to peacefully protest the British's repressive measures. On the same day, General Dyer issued a notice prohibiting all public gatherings because he was afraid that people would discuss him and band together against him. The majority of the population was aware of the notice, and they proceeded to celebrate their festival as if it were any other day. When General Dyer learned of the crowd gathered at Jallianwala Bagh, he ordered the closing of the garden's only gate and the commencement of firing.
