Detailed Solution

The janapadas that became more important than the others were known as Mahajanapadas.
Some janapadas became more important than others about 2500 years ago and were known as Mahajanapadas. There were 16 mahajanapadas with a well-fortified capital city, surrounded by tall walls made of wood, brick, or stone. Rulers built forts to protect themselves from other kings and prevent attacks. Rulers also wanted to show their riches and power by building massive walls around their cities. Forts also allowed rulers to control the territory and the people living inside. Fortification required a great deal of planning. Bricks or stone preparation required an enormous amount of labourers. Mahajanapadas maintained regular armies and sometimes paid soldiers punch-marked coins as salaries.
