Detailed Solution

The Jharia and Raniganj coal mines in Bihar employed about 50% of tribal workers in the 1920s. Working in the deadly, exhausting, and deep mines was frequently fatal, backbreaking, and dangerous. In India's coal mines in the 1920s, over 2,000 workers perished every year. Even worse was the plight of the tribal people, who had to travel a great distance from their homes to find work. They were hired by contractors, who gave them pitifully meagre wages and banned them from returning home. The workers faced many problems, and the contractors mistreated them.
