Detailed Solution

Dalit women and young girls mainly do the job of manual scavenging. Manual scavenging describes the manual cleaning, carrying, and disposing of human excreta in an insanitary latrine. It can be in an open drain, sewer, septic tank, or pit. They move the wastes using brooms and tin plates. Then they dump it into baskets and carry it to disposal locations, sometimes several kilometres away. This practice of employing manual scavengers for cleaning sewers and septic tanks is prevalent in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. This job is mainly done by Dalits, women, and young girls. According to Safai Karamchari Andolan, more than one lakh Dalits are involved in this practice. It is regarded as a dehumanising practice.
