The Journal Asiatick Researches was started by William Jones.
William Jones founded a journal called Asiatick Researches. He was a famous lawyer and linguist who arrived in India in 1783 in Calcutta. He took a keen interest in Sanskrit and began to spend several hours each day with pandits to master the language. He was soon immersed in old Indian scriptures. He got close to people like Henry Thomas Colebrooke and Nathaniel Halhed, who were also busy researching India's ancient history, learning Indian languages, and translating Sanskrit and Persian literature into English.
