The Justice Sachar Committee was set-up in 2005.
In 2004, the Congress Party returned to strength in India after having been in competition for 8 years. This was an unheard-of duration of time for a celebration that had dominated the country for 44 out of 47 years between 1947 and 2004. It returned to strength as the head of a coalition, triumphing 145/543 seats in the Lok Sabha. One of its projects became the commissioning of a record of the contemporary social, monetary and academic situations of the Muslims of India.
The Sachar Committee became a seven-member High Level Committee in India set up in March 2005 through the means of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The committee was headed by the former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Rajinder Sachar to examine the social, monetary and academic circumstances of muslims in India.
