Detailed Solution

The Samrat Ashoka rulers fought the Kalinga War.
The Kalinga War was the last war fought by Samrat Ashok. The Maurya Empire fought it against Kalinga, located on the east coast of Orissa. At that time, it had been eight years since Samrat Ashoka sat on the throne of the Mauryan Empire. Looking at the fight's aftermath and the resulting bloodshed, he decided to give up on war even though he gained victory over Kalinga. After that, he controlled the vast Mauryan Empire with respect and peace under the concept of dhamma. He is recorded as the only king in the history of Ancient India to give up conquest after winning a war.
