The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple was dedicated to shiva. The Chandela dynasty's King Dhangadeva built it in the year 999 CE. It had an ornate gateway leading to the main hall, the Maha Mandapa, and an entrance. The primary temple, the Garbhagriha, housed the principal deity's picture. Only the monarch, members of his family, and priests congregated here for ritual devotion. King Ganda, one of the Chandela Rajputs' only characters, built Kandariya Mahadeva in Khajuraho, which served as their religious centre from 1017 to 1029. Shiva, the Supreme God of Shaivism, one of the three most significant sects in Hinduism, is the subject of the temple.
