The Khond tribe mainly resides in the state of Odisha. They are traditionally hunters and gatherers; some live on hills, while others live on plains. They have large tracts of fertile land, but many practice hunting, gathering and shifting cultivation because they want to stay connected to nature and their traditional practices. They also consider themselves the forest owners and use forest products extensively. They are designated as scheduled tribes in areas like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Andhra Pradesh other than Odisha. They had revolted against the authorities numerous times during the colonial era in the years 1817 and 1836.
