The Lahore session of Congress made the decision of complete independence in 1929.
Following the Round Table Conference announced by Lord Irwin, the radicals within the Congress, who advocated a constitutional government within the confines of British dominion, progressively lost their power. Under Jawaharlal Nehru's leadership, the Lahore Congress formalised the demand for 'Poorna Swaraj' or complete independence, for India in December 1929. It was decided that January 26, 1930, would be Independence Day.
