        Gautam Buddha was the founder of Buddhism. He was born in Lumbini, Nepal. He was born in the Sakya clan. So he was known as "Shakyamuni". He achieved Nirvana in Bodhgaya. He told about the eightfold path to attaining Nirvana. In Sarnath, he gave his first sermon to his first five disciples.
        His language of sermon was in Pali. The common people can easily understand this language.He died in Kushinagar. After the death of Buddha, his teachings were compiled in books. This holy book is known as Tripitaka. It contains three pitakas – Vinaya Pitaka, Sutta Pitaka and Abhidhamma Pitaka. These books were written in Pali.
