Odisha contributes to about 44% of manganese reserves in India, followed by Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. Sambalpur, Rayagada, and Sundargarh in Odisha and Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh are few manganese mines in India. Balaghat is Asia's deepest underground manganese mine, under Manganese Ore India Limited. With its rich reserves, India stands second in manganese reserves and is the fifth-largest manganese producer. Manganese has several uses in the iron and steel industry. It is also utilised in the production of alloys, paints, bleaching powder, and insecticides.
