Detailed Solution

Concept: The heat needed to convert 1 mole of liquid to vapor at its boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure is known as the latent heat of evaporation.
The liquid is transformed into the vapor phase during vaporization by breaking the strong intermolecular interactions between the liquid molecules. Thus more energy is required to break the intermolecular attraction of the liquid molecules compared to just weakening enough the bonds in solid to convert it into liquid (during fusion) .
So, the latent heat of evaporation of a substance is always greater than its latent heat of fusion.
A substance's latent heat of evaporation is invariably higher than its latent heat of fusion.
Hence, the correct option is 1.
