Detailed Solution

In England, workers' lives in the 19th century were miserable.
They were paid less and required to work longer hours. As a result, poverty was more prevalent in cities than in villages. Moreover, they had to work in factories with hazardous working conditions. They operated with machines without proper training or education, which was risky. People from the countryside flocked to cities in search of new opportunities. Only a few of those whose friends and relatives were already employed in the factories were able to find work. The living conditions were so deplorable that such people were expected to die in a workhouse, hospital, or psychiatric hospital rather than in some decent working conditions.
