Detailed Solution

The Lion Capital was originally placed at the Ashokan pillar in Sarnath in 250 BCE.
Ashoka was a great Mauryan emperor who inscribed messages on stone pillars. Ashoka carved many pillars but the most important is the Lion capital which is carved in Sarnath pillars located in India  (ca. 250 BCE). Now the capital is displayed at the Sarnath Museum and the pillar is still there in the same place where it has been previously. This pillar is adopted as the national emblem of India and is also depicted in the one rupee and 2 rupee notes. This is originally a sculpture of four Asiatic lions standing back to back.
