Detailed Solution

Dedifferentiation refers to the process in which living differentiated cells, which have lost the ability to divide, regain the
capacity for cell division under certain conditions. When certain tissues or organs are damaged, dedifferentiated cells may undergo cell division to form a mass of undifferentiated cells, known as a callus, in plants.

(1) Maturation refers to the process of cells or tissues becoming fully developed or reaching their fi nal specialized state. During maturation, cells undergo differentiation, acquiring specific structures and functions characteristic of their specific cell type.

(2) Differentiation is the process by which cells become specialised and acquire specific functions during development.
During differentiation, cells undergo changes in gene expression and morphology, leading to the development of distinct cell types with unique features and functions.

(4) Redifferentiation is the process by which dedifferentiated cells regain their specialised characteristics and functions.
