Detailed Solution

The local name for ‘Swidden’ agriculture in India is Penda.
In many countries of Asia, Africa, and South America, shifting cultivation is a traditional agricultural method. Parts of the forest are cut and burned in rotation under shifting farming. After the first monsoon rains, seeds are sown in the ashes, and harvest happens in October-November. These plots are planted for a few years before being left fallow for 12 to 18 years to allow the forest to regenerate. These plots are produced with a variety of crops. Local terminology for shifting agriculture in India includes Dhya, Penda, Bewar, Nevad, Jhum, Podu, Khanda, and Kumari.
