The longitudinal valley lying between the lesser Himalayas and Shivalik is called Duns. They were created by river deposits that once accumulated in the area. The water drains away, leaving behind deposits referred to as Duars on the eastern side and Duns on the west. Duns, unlike river valleys, have a structural origin and are covered in boulders and gravel eroded from the Shiwalik uplands and the Himalayas. The region is home to significant duns such as Dehra, Kothri, Chaukham, Patli, and Kota.
