Detailed Solution

The loss of cattle due to Rinderpest destroyed the livelihoods of Africans.
In the latter half of the 1880s, rinderpest reached Africa. Italian troops conquering Eritrea in East Africa were fed on diseased livestock smuggled from British Asia. Rift Valley Fever entered Africa from the east and spread westward like a forest fire until it reached Africa's Atlantic coast in 1892. Five years later, it arrived at Cape, the southernmost point of Africa. 90% of the livestock were killed by rinderpest along the road. The loss of livestock damaged African livelihoods. Planters, mining owners, and colonial administrations effectively monopolised the few remaining cattle resources to increase their dominance and drive Africans into the labour force. Africa's conquest and tyranny were made possible by European colonists' control over the resource-poor livestock.
