Detailed Solution

The Maasai lost 60 percent of their grazing lands when the European imperial powers took over.
Pastoral communities like the Maasai got caught with European imperial powers who wanted to get hold of African territorial possessions. Thus, in 1885, Maasailand was split with an international boundary between German Tanganyika and British Kenya. Consequently, the whites got settled in the best grazing lands and pushed Maasai into a corner of northern Tanzania and southern Kenya. As a result, the Maasai lost around 60 per cent of their pre-colonial grazing lands.
