Detailed Solution

The Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, is directly associated with Buddhism. It marks the spot where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree around the 6th century BCE, becoming the Buddha. The temple is one of the earliest Buddhist brick structures still surviving in India, originally constructed by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE. The present structure features a 55-meter tall pyramidal spire surrounded by smaller stupas and shrines. Pilgrims from around the world, including monks from Tibet, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Myanmar, visit Bodh Gaya to meditate and pay homage, making it one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage centers globally.
