The main aim of the post-war international economic system was to preserve economic stability and full employment in the industrial world. The main components of the International Financial system are the World Bank and IMF (International Monetary Fund). These institutions were set up in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, USA. The functions of these institutions were to help rebuild to promote international economic cooperation. The agreement established a new global monetary system and replaced gold with the standard US dollars. The post-war economy needed to be strong enough to sustain the devastation caused by the two continuous wars.
