The main component (gas) of biogas is methane.
Methane makes biogas an excellent fuel. The components of biogas are Methane, Carbon dioxide, hydrogen and hydrogen sulphide. Biogas contains 75 per cent methane in it, which makes it the main constituent of biogas.
The main advantage of this gas is that it doesn’t produce any smoke while burning and leaves no residue. The heating capacity is also considered to be high. Biogas needs water, and it doesn’t need oxygen.
All the cow-dung, various plant materials like the residue after harvesting the crops, vegetable waste and sewage are mixed with water and fed into the digester.
All the decomposition happens only in the absence of oxygen.
