Detailed Solution

The main destinations of Indian indentured migrants were the Caribbean Islands, Mauritius and Fiji.
Between 1834 and the end of WW I, Britain sent over 2 million indentured Indian workers to 19 colonies, including Fiji, Mauritius, Ceylon, Trinidad, Guyana, Malaysia, Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa. The Caribbean islands, particularly Trinidad, Guyana, Surinam, Mauritius, and Fiji, were the most popular destinations for Indian indentured migrants. Tamil migrants settled in Ceylon and Malaya, closer to home. In Assam, indentured servants were also hired for tea plantations. The indentured servants (called 'coolies' derogatorily) were recruited from India, China, and the Pacific and signed a contract in their home countries to work overseas for five years or more.
