The major rabi crop in India is wheat. After rice, wheat is the second-most significant grain crop in India. Approximately 12.8% of the world's wheat is produced in India (2017). It is mostly a crop grown in temperate regions. As a result, it is grown in India during the rabi season, which is winter. In the north and centre of the country, precisely the Indo-Gangetic Plain, Malwa Plateau, and the Himalayas, up to 2,700 m altitude, over 85% of the entire land is planted with this crop. It is primarily farmed under irrigation because it is a rabi crop. However, it is a rainfed crop in Madhya Pradesh's Malwa plateau and sections of the Himalayan highlands.
