The main function of the Prussian Zollverein was to Abolish tariff barriers.
The German states were minor principalities, preferably 39 in number. Prussia led them to economic unity. In 1834, Prussia established the Zollverein, a customs union that was later joined by many other German states. The Zollverein was founded to abolish the customs barrier. Each German state had its own currency, taxation, weights, and measures, making transporting people and goods time-consuming. So, Zolleverin contributed by establishing a single economic federation to remove barriers to economic trade and growth. It resulted in the free movement of people, commodities, and capital across German states.
