The Vienna Congress aimed to reduce the size of the major nations to balance one another and promote world peace. In 1814 and 1815, Vienna hosted the Congress of Vienna. It was a gathering of European ambassadors. Klemens von Metternich, an Austrian, served as the organisation's chairman.
