Near the end of the proliferative phase of the menstrual cycle, the mature follicles secrete increasing amounts of oestrogen. The positive feedback relation between estrogen and LH rapidly increases the estrogen and LH levels prior to ovulation. 

LH and FSH are secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary. Relaxin is produced by the corpus luteum.
