Detailed Solution

The major objective of developing super highways is to reduce the time and distance between the country's megacities.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) initiated the Golden Quadrilateral Super Highways construction as a first step of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP). Super Highways connect megacities of the country, effectively reducing the journey's time and cost and enhancing accessibility. The largest highway in India, Golden Quadrilateral, connects the four major cities - Delhi in the North, Mumbai in the west, Chennai in the south, and Kolkata in the east - greatly reducing the distance between the cities. The project was initiated in 2001 after two years of rigorous planning and wrapped up in 2012. The fifth-largest in the world, the highway has six-lane expressways. It connects the major cities' cultural, agricultural, and industrial areas, improving connectivity.
