Detailed Solution

The major social group of Sri Lanka is civil war. Sri Lanka has a diverse population. However, the two major social groups were Sinhalas, 74% of the population, and Tamils, 18% of the population. Other than that, there were 7% of Christians. Most Sinhalas were Buddhists, the Tamils were either Hindus or Muslims, and the Christians were both Tamils and Sinhalas. After 1948, after Sri Lanka gained independence, the Sinhala leaders adopted majoritarian measures to establish Sinhala supremacy despite being democratically elected. An Act was passed in 195 and recognised Sinhala as the official language of Sri Lanka. The government created policies favouring Sinhala applicants in government jobs and university positions. Also, a new Constitution stated that the state should protect and foster Buddhism, their official religion.
