Detailed Solution

The majoritarian measures taken by the Sri Lankan government increased the feeling of alienation among the Sri Lankan Tamils.
Tamils in Sri Lanka felt excluded because the government used majoritarian tactics to reinforce Sinhala supremacy, such as Tamil was ignored when an Act was established in 1956 designating Sinhala as the sole official tongue. The regimes practised a politics of preference that favoured Sinhala candidates for academic places and government employment. The state was required under a new Constitution to preserve and advance Buddhism. According to Sri Lankan Tamils, none of the major political parties run by Buddhist Sinhala politicians was considerate of their language and culture. As a result, tensions between the Tamil and Sinhala people grew over time, and civil war eventually broke out.
