We are informed that a man is 35 years old, and his son is 7 years old.
We must now determine when the son will be half as old as his father.
Man-years of age
His son is 7 years old.
Let the son's age drop to half that of the father after

Age thus after

Age of his son =

(x + 7)

years
According to this question:
⇒

(x + 7) = \frac{(x + 35)}{2}

⇒

2 (x + 7) = (x + 35)

⇒

2 x + 14 = x + 35

∴

x = 21

After 21 years:
Age of man

= (x + 35) = (21 + 35) = 56

years
Age of son

= (x + 7) = (21 + 7) = 28

years
He will therefore be half as old as his father in 21 years.
