The material similar to silk in appearance is rayon.
Rayon is a synthetic fibre. It is obtained from wood pulp naturally and made from cellulose. And then, it is chemically  modified to use regularly. After modifying it looks like silk. And due to modification by chemicals, it is known as artificial silk. Rayon finds its uses in manufacturing of climbing ropes, fishnets, parachutes, tents, seat belts, conveyor belts etc.
