There are two broad categories of types of material on the basis of their behaviour around magnets, mainly magnetic, and non-magnetic materials. Magnetic materials are those which are attracted to magnets. For example: iron, nickel, and cobalt. Where as non-magnetic materials are those which are neither attracted nor repelled by magnets. For example: paper, plastic, and stone.
