Detailed Solution

The meaning of nagaram is Association of traders.
Nagarams means commercial towns, which was the Association of traders. It was one of the administrative parts of the mandalam (province). There were administrative functions performed in towns occasionally. The traders and merchants usually formed their associations and organised them in nagarams.
Nagaram was a body of conduct through which the traders conducted commercial activities. Nagarams were formed under the rule of Cholas. All these associations and commercial towns were found in Tamilnadu during the Chola dynasty.
