The method of sowing seeds in Jhum cultivation is known as broadcast planting.
Jhum cultivation is clearing vegetative/forest cover on land/slopes of hills, drying and burning it before the onset of monsoon, and cropping thereon after that. The strategy of sowing seeds in jhum cultivation is understood as Broadcast seeding. It's a way of seeding that involves scattering seeds, by hand or mechanically, over a comparatively large area. After scattering, the roots are lightly buried. It's a more accessible and easier method than the usual row method of sowing seeds.
