Detailed Solution

The micro organisms which convert the dead plants and animals to humus are known as decomposers.

There are many living organisms living in the forest including plants, animals, birds, insects and even microorganisms. They all depend on each other in some or the other way. Microorganisms present in the soil, for example, convert the dead plants and animals into humus. Such microbes are called decomposers.  Humus is essential to make the soil fertile. The organic remains of dead animals and plants are broken down into simpler nutrient form and released into the soil, from which its absorbed by the roots of the living plants to grow healthily. The plants are then eaten by herbivores, which are eaten by carnivores and so on, until the last organism of the chain dies and is decomposed by the decomposers to continue the cycle. This makes the decomposers very important part of any ecosystem.
