The Military Revolutionary Committee was headed by Leon Trotski.
The Socialist Movement in Russia was in full flow during the 1916s and the beginning of the 1917s. People, especially the working class and their socialist leaders, were very much for a Socialist Revolution. The most important thing was that The peasants wanted to take back the lands, which until that point, they had tilled. In 1917 before the October Revolution, there were the Bolsheviks under the leadership of Stalin and the Provisional Government. Lenin feared they would run a dictatorship if the Provisional Government seized power. So, to look after the revolt from the socialist perspective, they formed the Military Revolutionary Committee, which agreed upon the communist's seizure of power. Thus, Leon Trotski became head of that committee.
